40 years in the paper industry

Miroslav Horyna is a long-time colleague who works at HIT OFFICE as a sales representative for export .....

HIT OFFICE is a purely Czech company. We are holders of the Family Business award and the Deloitte company's award included us among the best managed companies in the Czech Republic. We focused on the production of high-quality office supplies, and at the same time we are also among the leading manufacturers of food packaging in Europe. Forbes magazine ranked us 138th in the ranking of the 175 largest family businesses in the Czech Republic for 2022. We are a company with more than 130 employees and we try to take proper care of all of them. Their satisfaction is our priority. Support and a human approach are our own.

Meet Miroslav

Miroslav Horyna, an enthusiastic athlete and an experienced colleague, has been working in the paper industry since 1982. He started his career at SEPAP n.p., in various production positions. It went through both planning and technical development. After the privatization of the state-owned enterprise SEPAP, he took up the position of head of sales at Papírny Bělá a. s. Even then, the company's product range was very wide. "Everything was there - the production of wrapping paper, filter paper, folding cardboard, coasters, plates, printed boxes, ... And I had experience with a large part of the products we now make," recalls Miroslav. "When the Šťastný family took over Papírny Bělá, my employment contract was transferred to the new owner, i.e. our company. I stayed with the same business of buying the main raw materials and selling our products abroad. And that's how I got to HIT OFFICE."

New company - big changes?

After the takeover of Papíren Bělá by the Šťastny family, there were of course certain changes, but for Miroslav in particular they were not fundamental. However, he was still a little worried about the new owners. "I wasn't sure if they would be interested in further investing in this field and improving it, although, in my opinion, it is very promising. But I quickly became convinced that the Šťastny family cares about him. I therefore felt a chance to participate in increasing our market share in the production of disposable packaging within Central and Eastern Europe," he says.

There was no problem with that. The new owners were significantly more interested in the market situation, trends and possibilities for further development. There was also a fundamental change in the management of the company. Unlike the previous owners, the Šťastny family had a much more open approach and welcomed discussion.

City Bela vs. City Probostov

And how does Mr. Miroslav remember our big move? "I was very much looking forward to it. Above all, that we will finally produce in new, clean halls with the necessary standards of hygienic operation, because it was not always possible to comply with this in city Bela."

The move itself was not so enthusiastically expected, but it was managed. Although there was a lot of stress due to delayed orders and pressure from clients to meet confirmed deadlines, thanks to timely information about the upcoming move, everything went relatively smoothly in the end and we managed to keep our clients.

And now a bit about the industry…

Miroslav is very experienced in his field. He speaks four languages – German, English, Romanian and Polish. "It's a must in sales," he explains. "You can solve many things in writing with the help of a translator, but there is nothing better than personal contact and negotiations in the client's native language. A lot of them especially appreciate the fact that I speak German with them."

Wondering what's "in"?

Miroslav told us that coasters, plates and bowls have long been the most popular. Sales of plastic-free cups are also growing. Looking to the future, it follows that a gradual transition from plastic products to cardboard products will be necessary. It is obvious that clients are beginning to give more and more priority to products that can be further recycled or composted, and thus do not burden our environment.

A message to future colleagues

"If you are interested in working in a Czech family business and if you are looking for a job full of challenges, in which you will certainly not be bored and in which the working time will fly by without you knowing how, then you have come to the right address."

Private peephole

Because Mr. Miroslav sits down often and a lot in the performance of his work duties - at the computer or on the road in the car, he tries to keep himself in maximum condition. He likes to do sports regularly, combining swimming with brisk walking or cycling. From early spring to late autumn, he also swims, in winter he enjoys a cold shower. "Although I never want to get out of a warm bed into cold water, it always gives me a very pleasant feeling and the right start to the next working day," he praises. He participates in a local sprint triathlon once a year and believes he will win his category next year.
